The myopic physicist

But Dr John Costella, an Australian-based physicist, accused the researchers of making an “embarrassing gaffe” in their calculations.

In a paper published online yesterday, he wrote: “Any physicist worth even a fraction of their weight in neutrinos will be shaking their head, knowing intuitively that the OPERA result is simply wrong.”

Any scientist worth his weight in critical thinking would understand that “intuition” is a relative cognitive construct, and that current theories such as quantum mechanics were viewed as completely counter-intuitive less than 100 years ago.

It always amazes me when scientists, who should be the vanguard of discovery, rush headlong to defend the status quo.
