I know people who project an air of caring and concern for others that is absolutely superficial. Their care is immediate and reactive; their concern is fleeting and inconsequential. These people are bored by philosophy, annoyed by political discourse, and uninterested in news. They don’t care to think too deeply of injustice or suffering. They don’t want to have to seriously consider disabusing themselves of any substantial material wealth or creature comforts.
These people I know announce their care and concern in large groups but fail to volunteer any sufficient time to a cause. It is these people who do not value and can not begin to understand the pure, matchless joy of giving.
